HISTORY

The family comes from Sütdtirol Schatz (Trentino-South Tyrol) German-speaking area of northern Italy with the dolomites. Eventually settled in southern Germany in Korb, (in the province of Baden Württemberg) and dedicated to viticulture since 1641. At 18 there are two things that Friedrich Schatz, (Federico) was clear: he wanted to be the first winegrower (the family trade) and the second did not want to do it at home in Germany. The year was 1982 and so began the journey to find the right place. He appreciated different countries and areas, and finally chose Ronda Spain in particular located geographically in the Mediterranean but with strong Atlantic influences. In the heart of Andalusia, the Serrania de Ronda is an area where already the Iberians, then the Romans, cultivated vineyards in the ancient city of Acinipo. He found the farm and the house, Finca Sanguijuela, peculiar name because it is located in the Sierra de la Sanguijuela, it is curious that match the initials of Finca and Federico, and that was how the logo came FS cellar. The first learn the language. An accelerated Castilian course in Marbella and "practical classes" of the masons who work every day to restore the house, did the miracle of "understanding" with a perfect Andalusian accent. The goal: to create a vineyard and a family, small cellar, where you can make eco-biodynamic wine quality. Alive and lively wines. Care and processed according to the basis of traditional wisdom working in harmony with modern technical means. La Finca Sanguijuela already had a small vineyard, but had to do tests with different varieties and see which ones were the best suited to this land and to this place the best conditions. Small details made this an adventure, since at the time Ronda was not qualified to plant vineyard area. It has been a long way to go, would not have been possible without the other wineries that are subsequently installed and the Regulatory Board, which saw in this emerging area the possibility of extending its wine region, not only the traditional sweet wine and raisins, but also still wines, red, white and rose. Over the years, the good work, and growing interest in high quality wines, meaningful and unique, but also full of energy and life, make it possible to move forward every day. The secret to doing what you want, it is still another, a good mix of illusion, knowledge and work, much work. 30 years have passed, the family has grown, and the new generation adds to wisdom of grandparents, we are still helping and teaching. Fortunately nature in his immense generosity takes care of everything else.

FINCA SANGUIJUELA

Leech Farm is located about 10 km from Ronda set in the "Serrania de Ronda". It offers a picturesque view surrounded by dry land work, natural streams, oak groves, pastures and Real Cañada Malaga-Sevilla-Jerez. It has a special microclimate with warm days and cool nights, offering ideal conditions for the development of organic-biodynamic wines of high quality. Situated on a plateau 700 meters above sea level, surrounded by the "Sierra de Grazalema" and "Sierra de las Nieves" that protect it from the strong winds of Levante and Poniente, and ensure a stable rainfall of 500 liters annually.

THE VINEYARD

The vineyard extends on a gentle slope to the south with Franco-Limo-sandy clay, deep soil healthy for its good aeration and permeability. From 1982 Friedrich planted new strains on the farm to study the vegetative and generative behavior, and further processing of wine. Following these tests with different varieties and soil and climate analysis, 3 hectares planted with the chosen varieties: * Lemberger, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Muskattrollinger *, Tempranillo. Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard in espalier, with a planting 1 x 2 m. * Celler F. Schatz is the unique winery in Spain that wines made with these varieties monovarietales.
